Since the early 1960's tourism in southern Spain has increased rapidly. Alongside that increase has been a steady rise in foreign residency, that bewitching spell that Spain casts over the unsuspecting traveler takes firm hold and what was a holiday destination becomes a chance to grab ones own piece of this Utopia.
Why?
Whether it was the beaches, the stunning scenery or the food and the very friendly and helpful Spanish people, the result is the same; the arrival back in Britain brings a total dissatisfaction with every aspect of your previous life. You dream of moving to Spain, it colours .every thing you do and everything you say, even to shopping in your local supermarket when you buy magazines on living in Spain and start buying expensive 'jamon' and 'chorizo' in a vain attempt to recapture the experience you fell in love with on holiday. You start surfing the net in an urgent need to find 'your place in the sun', you book flights and the search starts in earnest.
Live the dream
It is only when you find your dream (or a very good likeness of it) that things start to become difficult, but persistence triumphs and you find yourself the proud owner of a property in Spain.
Suddenly that world that you experienced whilst on holiday is at your fingertips, you can revel in the nearly constant sunshine, the plentiful cheap restaurants and the friendliness of the locals. Your Spanish neighbour becomes your best friend and you start to experience the real Spain
