The municipality has captured quality tourism both national and international and offers excellent restaurants and bars, some of the best golf courses on the Costa del Sol, luxury hotels, beautiful walks and many actlvities to keep the traveller contented.
In the present day, Benahavis works hard to preserve its heritage and places like Montemayor Castle, which can be accessed by a steep path. The castle ruins . overlook Benahavis and its five look-out towers are scattered across the municipality.
In the town centre one can visit the well maintained "Terre Leonera". An award winning. park has been built around the tower which is enjoyed by residents and visitors alike and is a truly magical place. From the park one can see" Las Angosturas", a natural gorge where the Guadalmina River (River of Mines) flows and which has been declared a European Heritage site.
The age of tourism really started in the 1960's with small restaurants offering the typical "Plato Combinado", "Chorizos al Agua" and "Arroz con Conejo" (eggs, chips, highly-seasoned pork sausages,' chops, rice and rabbit) Nowadays, the menu is more varied, offering dishes such as shoulder of lamb, venison, suckling pig, T-bone steak, partridge or fish, like sea bass, salmon and gilthead. One can also find superb salads, seafood cocktails, prawnpil-pil and roasted cheese on spinach. In addition there is a delicious variety of home-made desserts on offer.
