You should also take time to discover what is available in some of the cities of the region, in nearby Malaga or Granada, Cordoba and Jerez de la Frontera. If you decide to visit one of the larger cities perhaps Seville is the place for you.   As the capital of the Autonomous Community of Andalucia and the fourth largest metropolitan area of Spain. Seville offers rich history, and a lot of it. You should not leave the City without visiting the Cathedral of Seville which is the largest Roman Catholic cathedral in the world and also the largest example of Medieval Gothic architecture. The spectacular facade, covered in Gothic statues and engravings is worth the trip by itself. You can enjoy a panoramic view of Seville from the the top of the bell tower called Giralda. 

The city of Cordoba in the north of Andalucia strides the Guadalquivir river. The Puente Romano bridge which is 2000 years old and makes a remarkable picture. Cordoba’s other famous attraction is the mosque built by the Moors when Cordoba was the capital of the Arab kingdom of Al Andalus.

Granada is another spectacular example of Spanish architecture. On top of a hill overlooking the city sits the Alhambra which is a series of palaces and gardens built under the Moorish Nazari Dynasty in the fourteenth centuary. The Alhambra on the world that the complex was choosen as a candidate in the new 7 wonders of the world contest. Well worth a visit when you are in Granada.

The Costa del Sol begins in west with Sotogrande and stretches to Nerja in the East.  Sotogrande is an exclusive resort which is more American in layout than Spanish. It has been built on a huge scale with wide avenues with lavsh landscaping which is maintained to the highest American standard. As soon as you drive passed the security guards you appreciate the ambiance and charm that belongs to Sotogrande.

Sotogrande has one of the finest marinas on the coast which is the first port of call after leaving Gibraltar. It is visited by all types and size of craft from sumptuous yachts to fast speed boats.

Sotogrande is also the golfers paradise with the Valderrama course which is possibly the best course on the Iberian peninsular There are many courses in the Sotogrande area and also on the coastal stretch all the way east to Marbella and beyond. A full list is available at golf information.

Nerja is a small  town on the eastern side of the Costa del Sol, the town is most famous for it series of caves filled with prehistoric artwork.  It also has a famous land mark jutting out over the Mediterranean... The Costa del Sol has several theme parks, all of them easily accessible and guaranteed to interest youngsters and adults alike. Selwo Safari Park in Estepona is a must-see; as well as more than 2,000 animals from the five continents, it offers adventure activities and camel rides in a beautiful, natural setting. You can even learn how to shoot with a bow and arrow. Its sister park, Selwo Marina in Benalmádena, is also a delight, especially in the summer months when children can swim alongside the sea lions.

The marine park has a modern dolphinarium and a penguinarium, exotic birds, a snake house and crocodiles.  We must not forget the crocodile park in Torremolinos, which has over 300 examples of different species.

 A guided tour takes two hours and is educational as well as fun. For animal lovers, Fuengirola Zoo is a good place to visit, and for those who are more interested in extinct species a visit to Tivoli World attraction park in Arroyo de la Miel will be a popular option. There, you will find life-size replicas of dinosaurs in their Jurassic park, and can enjoy a fun afternoon on the fairground rides, watching musical shows, or tucking into a delicious meal in one of the themed bars or restaurants. Oh, and and do not forget to see the largest miniature model train in Europe while there.

The Costa del Sol also has several water parks, with some of the biggest and best rides in Europe. The Mijas Aquatic Park in Mijas Costa boasts a wave pool, kamikaze slide, water chutes, Adventure River with winding raft slides and a mini aqua park for little ones. There are also live shows and free water aerobics classes. Torremolinos Aqua Park has the added attraction of sea lion shows and Aqua Velis in Torre del Mar has 21 rides including super- fast slides, a dinghy river ride and a paddling pool for small children.

If you have ever fancied water skiing, or would like to improve your technique, you only have to head for the Cable Ski centre in Marbella, where a cable system pulls skiers around a lake, at speeds which are adjusted for beginners, those without much experience, or experts.
